Elevator Solutions for Demanding Projects with Space Constraints

Technical Approach of MRL UX SLH (Super Low Headroom) and Metron’s BOV Solution

In projects where architectural limitations significantly reduce available space, traditional solutions often reach their limits. Within the broader philosophy of the UX series, which places the installer at the center of the design process, Metron has developed two innovative solutions that address clear technical challenges in the market: the MRL UX SLH (Super Low Headroom) and the BOV solution for renovations in existing shafts.

MRL G SLH Super Low Headroom

The technical solution for extremely limited overhead spaces

The MRL UX SLH (Super Low Headroom) elevator is a specialized product within the UX series, designed to meet the most demanding installation conditions, especially when the top floor height is extremely limited.

Space-Oriented Technical Design

As reflected in the technical documentation, this type of MRL elevator:

  • requires a minimum overhead space of only ~2,600 mm
  • can be installed even in highly restricted spaces without compromising comfort or safety
  • maximizes shaft utilization without sacrificing clean system geometry

This is achieved through industrialized, optimized components and predefined installation points, enabling easier handling and faster assembly.

The MRL UX SLH elevator is designed with strong emphasis on installer ergonomics:

  • full redesign of components for easier installation
  • foldable handrail with integrated grip for improved handling
  • predefined routing and positioning of parts, reducing installation time and complexity
  • detailed technical documentation and comprehensive installation manuals

This design philosophy effectively embodies the principle that the more “factory-defined” a solution is, the higher the real-world safety and reliability.

Compliance & Regulations

The MRL UX SLH elevator is fully compliant with applicable European standards, including:

  • EN 81-20 and EN 81-21 for design and operational safety
  • EN 81-70 for accessibility for persons with disabilities
This ensures not only regulatory compliance, but also seamless integration into projects with exceptionally high technical and architectural requirements.

BOV – Solution for Renovations in Existing Buildings

A customized MR solution for projects where space is even more limited and requirements are more demanding

In renovation projects within existing buildings where space constraints are even tighter (narrow, small-width shafts), machine rooms are absent, and there is a need to position the drive unit outside the shaft, a conventional MRL solution is not always sufficient. The BOV solution is designed to address these cases with a technically smart and efficient approach.

How It Works

Instead of placing the motor inside the shaft, the machine is installed outside the shaft either at the top or bottom, adjacent to it, while only the traction sheave is positioned inside the shaft.

This allows for:

  • elevator installation in buildings without a machine room, with or without a shaft
  • handling of applications with rated loads up to ~525 kg
  • flexible positioning of the mechanical system without requiring additional structural reinforcements
  • compatibility with automatic or bus-type doors

Space Optimization Advantages

With the ability to fit an 800 mm wide car into a shaft of just 1,150 mm width, the BOV solution maximizes the use of available space.

Installation is further simplified through:

  • elimination of support structures or base frames inside the shaft
  • components designed to reduce noise and vibrations
  • minimized complexity in projects dominated by structural limitations

Technical Value in Practice

When a solution is designed to:

  • maximize available space
  • minimize installation and maintenance effort
  • fully comply with European standards

it goes beyond being just a product. It becomes a true engineering solution—one that delivers answers to projects that, until recently, were considered exceptionally challenging.

Metron’s Solutions

Metron’s solutions operate with reliability, safety, and high ride quality, even in projects with challenging spatial constraints and demanding regulatory requirements.

  • The MRL UX SLH elevator effectively addresses projects with limited overhead space, without compromising on performance or reliability.
  • The BOV elevator solution expands possibilities in renovation projects and in applications where there is no machine room and shaft width is extremely restricted.

Both solutions reflect the same core principle: engineering approaches driven by a deep understanding of real project conditions and regulations and not by standard product specifications.
